Purple Heart Donations Explained

Purple heart donations are designed to help veterans and purple heart veterans of the United States get the help that they need. A lot of veterans come back home from a war and in some cases, the disabilities they have suffered are relatively minor, however in other cases they might have injuries, long term illness, psychological and/or physical needs that simply can not be met through the usual channels. Sometimes these are not covered by available government funded facilities.

This is the reason why organizations come together and help those veterans and purple heart veterans who need that extra special attention but do not have the financial means to meet their own needs. These organizations help the readjustment process when a veteran is returning to civilian life with Purple Heart Donations.

About the Purple Heart

The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those who have been wounded or killed while serving with the U.S. military. If you would like to go see the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor than you can travel to New Windsor, New York. Before it became the Purple Heart it was named the Badge of Military Merit. This took the form of a heart made of purple cloth. The Purple Heart officially the oldest award that is still given to members of the United States military. The only earlier award being the obsolete Fidelity Medallion.

The original Purple Heart was established by George Washington who was then the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, by order from his Newburgh, New York headquarters. The Badge of Military Merit was only awarded to three Revolutionary War soldiers and from then on as its legend grew, so did its appearance. Although never abolished, the award of the badge was not proposed again officially until after World War I.

There are car donation programs that figure out exactly how your vehicle can best help the service men and women of the United States. Most of the time, cars will be auctioned off in order to raise funds for the veterans.

If the car is in good condition and is mechanically in good shape, it might be donated directly to a veteran in need of transportation. You also benefit from donating a car because you will receive the appropriate tax deduction for donating your car to purple heart donations. You are not restricted to donate mainly cars. RV's, trucks and even boats can be donated.

Most of the times you will not be burdened with having to figure out how to get your donation to the right place. Local soldier receives purple heart after Afghan attack

“I was surprised,” the 25-year-old Gravitte says of receiving the Purple Heart, awarded to members of the armed forces who are wounded in war or given posthumously to their next of kin if they are killed in action or die from their wounds. “People say, ‘Congratulations,’ but it’s not something you’re thrilled about getting.” Gravitte clarifies that remark by saying the Purple Heart is an honor, of course, but it also serves as a reminder of how close he came to being more seriously hurt or dead.
